August 10/2017- Thunder Bay-Organizers of the U 18 Baseball World Championships are at Intercity Shopping Centre today and tomorrow (August 10/11) meeting with existing volunteers, recruiting for positions and making certain accreditation requirements are all in place. Volunteers will also get to see the examples of the uniforms that will be distributed to them at Volunteer training.
Rachelle Gibbs, Volunteer Co ordinator and Organizer of the two-day event says that there has been an increase in inquiries as the summer has progressed and they are currently slotting people into the roles they had specified. “We certainly are trying to make matches where we can and also have a list of skills and duties for new volunteers to peruse and make their selections, “says Rachelle.
September 1-10, 12 countries will be in Thunder Bay competing in a global baseball event that includes the world’s heavy hitters like Japan and the U.S. Television crews have been on site to feature the games to markets like Japan, providing a unique opportunity to showcase Thunder Bay. “We have seen an increase in interest for the Canada games of course. They have a great field of players this year and we look forward to the opening game against Chinese Taipai at 6:30 p.m. on the first day”, says Warren Philp. “We encourage everyone to get their tickets early for the most in-demand games as we see a surge in this activity.”
Tickets can be purchased online or at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium. Many are what organizers term as “value games”...where one ticket provides access to either two or three games that same day. “The schedule worked out this way” says Philp. “Better for the crowds. The teams want to see people in the stand cheering them on.”
Pricing begins at just $8 for Children and Seniors to $15 for adults.
