Local Organizing Committee Announce Community Partners and Ticket Sales
DECEMBER 14, 2016 – Thunder Bay Organizers of the XXVIII World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-18 Baseball World Cup 2017 announced three community partners as well as early ticket sales available through their newly launched website today.
Thunder Bay International Baseball Association (TBIBA) Executive Director Warren Philp indicated that there has been a flurry of activity since the summer. “We have managed to secure some very extensive support from the community. The corporate partners include Tbaytel, CN and Goldcorp – three organizations that have chosen to align their brands and support with our event.”
Scheduled for September 1-10 , 2017 at both Port Arthur Stadium and Baseball Central, the three partners, along with ten additional supporters and suppliers already have come on board.
The Thunder Bay Community Auditorium has also contributed by being the central house for tickets, available in person, by telephone or online. “We have agreed to act as the ticket agent for this event,” said Bob Halvorsen, GM Thunder Bay Community Auditorium. “As of today, people can contact our box office and purchase a full tournament pass for $199.00. Vouchers will be provided to purchasers who will have priority seat selection in the 1600 seat Port Arthur Stadium grandstand once the system is available in April 2017 after the final 50 game schedule is determined by the WBSC.” Tournament vouchers can be purchased by visiting the website.
Progress has been made on the infrastructure improvements at Port Arthur Stadium and Baseball Central and organizers say that all is on schedule.
“We still have lots of work to do,” continued Philp who recognized all three levels of government for their support in the provision of resources, equipment and funding. “We can’t do an event of this scope without everyone working together. We are truly fortunate to have had and will continue to have such great cooperation.”
Today is also the first day for the official website with information available for those interested in supporting, volunteering or purchasing tickets. The site is being updated regularly as information becomes available.
